Barton completes sweep of Garden City
Garden City, KS-Rarely does a game turn as quickly as it did in Wednesday's finale.
With the score tied at 5 after four, Barton put the game on ice with a nine-run fifth inning, Chloe Enslinger hit two more home runs, and the Cougars run ruled Garden City, 14-5 in game two at Tangeman Sports Complex.
Chiara Olison took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Broncbusters, which lost their fifth straight game to fall to 9-9 overall and 1-3 in conference.
After giving up a three-spot in the top of the first, Garden City tied it up in the bottom half powered by Reagan Sword's two-run single.
Once Barton went back on top in the second inning, it was Sword answering the bell again in the third with a two-out, RBI double to make it 3-3.
The teams exchanged scoring blows in the fourth with the Broncbusters answering Laney Wood's RBI single in the top half with Daryelin Rivas Chavez's run-scoring base hit.
But the fifth inning was another story.
Enslinger smacked a two-run homer, Karter Alvord walked with the bases loaded, Wood hit a sacrifice fly, Allyson McDougal singled home a run, and Enslinger went yard again, lifting a two-run shot to right that polished off a nine-run inning.
Just like that, it was over.
Brooklynn Angielski notched the win for Barton, allowing five runs on eight hits over five innings. She improved to 5-2 on the season.
Chavez, Maria Avendano Fori, and Sword, each collected two hits for the Broncbusters, which committed four errors.
