Men’s Basketball Celebrates Sophomore Night with Victory Over Sea Devils

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team hosted Cape Fear Community College Wednesday evening for their second meeting of the season. Prior to the start of the contest, the men's basketball program honored lone sophomore, Jalen Smith for his effort during his two seasons at Richard Bland. After completion of the contest, the Statesmen moved to 8-15 overall, 6-7 in conference play after defeating the Sea Devils, 80-55.

 

Wednesday evening was a back and forth battle between the Statesmen and Sea Devils. The Statesmen held the upper edge heading into the break as they outscored the Sea Devils 35-28 in the first 20 minutes of play. Coming out of the half, Richard Bland picked up the momentum and ran away with the game, outscoring Cape Fear 45-27, to coast to an 80-55 conference victory.

 

Doyle Brown led the way for Richard Bland scoring 27 points on the evening, picked up four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Andy Ramirez trailed closely behind with 24 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Dove Fishburne tallied 12 points, five assists, four rebounds, and four steals, while Jermaine Coston Jr. added nine points and nine rebounds. Jalen Smith chipped in with nine rebounds, six assists, five points, and one block on the evening. Off the bench, Emmanuel Vonhm had three points and two rebounds, and Richard Agbo one rebound and one assist in the win.

 

Richard Bland shot 58.0% from the field, 50.0% from the perimeter, and 72.7% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next travels to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Saturday, March 8th for their final game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
