"What I'm extremely happy about tonight is that we were able to get everyone minutes and they were all able to score. That doesn't happen often so when it does you just have to sit back and watch these guys as they're smiling and having fun out there. I wasn't to pleased with how we ended the game just giving up points, but we'll talk about that tomorrow. We still have to stay focused and make sure we don't start creating any bad habits. Just really proud of our entire group from our staff to every guy we have in our locker room. I really enjoy this group. They enjoy each other. It's just special. I want this to last for as long as possible." head coach Cody Hastings had to say after their 88-76 win over Shorter College.
Both teams started the game off sloppy with multiple turnovers and missed free throws, but it was CJ Washington layup from Jaxson Yancy that opened the scoring. Shorter would take their first and only lead with just over 17 minutes in the first half, and tie the game at 8 before Jaxson Yancy drained a 3 to give the Greyhounds the lead for good. ASU Mid-South would take their first double digit lead from an alley oop off backboard from Santana Spivey to Taylor Conner. It was the Greyhounds defense that got things going from them as they turned the Bulldogs over were about to get out in transition. The Greyhounds would take a demanding 49-26 lead going into halftime.
ASU Mid-South would continue to dominate throughout the 2nd half pushing their lead to 28 at one point. For the final 5-6 minutes it was the Bulldogs who did everything they could to get back in the game, but there was just not enough time left as they would shoot a wide open layup as the time expired to give them 76.
ASU Mid-South moves to 16-11 overall and 10-3 in Region play. They are in a 3 way tie for first place with South Arkansas and North Arkansas.
5 players scored double figures for the Greyhounds.
