Miami Dade Falls to Florida Southwestern in Conference Matchup
The Miami Dade College Sharks faced a tough road challenge against Florida Southwestern State College, falling 84-57 in a game where early struggles proved too much to overcome. Despite a more competitive second half, the deficit from the opening 20 minutes ultimately sealed the Sharks' fate.
From the opening tip, Miami Dade found itself in an offensive drought, managing only 12 points in the first half while Florida Southwestern capitalized on high-percentage opportunities to build a commanding 39-12 halftime lead. The Bucs' efficiency on both ends of the floor put Miami Dade on its heels, and despite an improved offensive performance in the second half, the Sharks were unable to erase the early deficit.
The Sharks shot just 30.9% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc, making it difficult to sustain any offensive rhythm. The rebounding battle also played a crucial role, with the Bucs dominating the glass 51-31, limiting Miami Dade's second-chance opportunities while creating extra possessions for themselves.
Individually, the Sharks were led by Jamaal Morris, who recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists in an all-around effort. Randy Smith contributed 10 points, all of which came from three-point range, while Kenneth Brayboy provided a spark off the bench with 10 points of his own. However, their efforts were not enough to counter the balanced attack of Florida Southwestern. The Bucs saw strong performances from Jafeth Martinez, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and K'jei Parker, who added 14 points. Chol Machot also chipped in 12 points, helping Florida Southwestern maintain control throughout the game.
Despite the loss, Miami Dade showed resilience in the second half, scoring 45 points and matching Florida Southwestern in that period. The Sharks will look to build on that momentum as they prepare for their next matchup, aiming to bounce back and find their rhythm offensively.
