COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team made their final road trip of the regular season Saturday as they took on Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Hawks grabbed the victory by a final score of 58-52 to bolster their playoff positioning.
Northeast (20-7, 12-5 ICCAC) were in need of a triumph to help ensure that they would host a contest in the first round of the ICCAC playoffs and they were able to accomplish just that as Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) and Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) both led the game in scoring with 21 points each. The ballgame was tied after the first quarter and again at halftime, but the Hawks were able to pull away late to sweep the season series against the Reivers.
There are multiple scenarios in play heading into the final night of regular season ICCAC competition on Wednesday night. Northeast, North Iowa Area Community College and Des Moines Area Community College are all in a tie for third place in the standings with the top four seeds all guaranteed a home playoff game on Saturday during the first round. The Hawks will host Ellsworth Community College in their Wednesday matchup, who is currently seeded second in the conference.
