Statesmen Drop Non-Conference Series to Hurricanes

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team traveled to Louisburg College Friday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader, and hosted the Hurricanes for game three of the series, Saturday afternoon. After completion of the games, the Statesmen moved to 12-13 overall, 5-9 in conference play after dropping the games 0-10, 6-12, and 14-29.

 

In game one, Richard Bland had trouble keeping up with Louisburg in a 0-10 loss Friday afternoon. A home run put the Hurricanes on the board in the bottom of the third. Louisburg scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sam Gupta, the number eight hitter, led the Statesmen with two hits in two at bats. Nate Riggs took the loss for Richard Bland. The righty went five innings, surrendering five runs on five hits, striking out four, and walking three. Michael Keyes came in, in relief, and surrendered five runs on four hits, striking out none, and walking three.

 

In game two, Macho Santiago collected three hits in four at bats, but Richard Bland lost to the Hurricanes 6-12 in the nightcap Friday. Santiago singled in the first, third, and fifth innings. Richard Bland opened the scoring in the first after Jordan Ramsey homered to center field, scoring two runs. Louisburg took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ramsey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, leading Richard Bland with two runs batted in. The Statesmen turned one double play on in the game on defense. Jack Rucker took the loss for Richard Bland. The left-handed pitcher went two and one-third innings, surrendering eight runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking one.

 

In game three, Jordan Ramsey drove in four on one hit, but the Statesmen fell 14-29 at home. Richard Bland collected 12 hits in the game. Louisburg opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two singles. The Hurricanes added seven runs on six hits in the top of the third inning to extend the lead, 0-11. Richard Bland cut the deficit to three in the bottom of the fourth, which included a solo home run to right field by Macho Santiago. The Statesmen scored nine runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Keegan Mahoney hit a grand slam to right field, Carson Herod drew a walk, scoring one run, and Ramsey hit a grand slam to left field. Louisburg scored 13 runs on nine hits in the top of the sixth inning. Connor Powell, Herod, Santiago, and Sam Gupta each collected two hits for the Statesmen. Mahoney and Ramsey drove in four runs each for the Statesmen. Jackson Hulcher took the loss for Richard Bland. The starting pitcher went two and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking two.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, March 26th for a single game with the Bobcats. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
