
MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 2 Walters State scored in every inning on Wednesday afternoon against Roane State, grabbing a 23-5 win over the Raiders in seven innings.
With the win, the Senators improved to 44-6-1 overall.
At the plate, Carson Cabbage homered and drove in five runs while Justin Bell went 3-3, homered and drove in three runs. Jack Vogele and Atticus Goodson each homered and had three RBIs, as well.
On the mound, Brayden Blankenship (2-0) got the start and threw four innings. Blankenship allowed one run on four hits and struck out four. Tyler Welch pitched the next inning, allowing four runs on five hits, before Ryder Moye struck out one in the sixth. Tyler Peterson pitched the final inning, striking out one in a clean inning.
Roane State got on the board with a run in the top of the first, but the Senators responded with three runs in the bottom half when Cabbage singled home two runs and Vogele scored on a passed ball.
In the second, Walters State made it 6-1 as Vogele smacked a solo home run and Cabbage crushed a two-run homer. The third inning saw three more runs score for the Senators when Vogele was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Kole Fenton, Cabbage walked with the bases loaded to score Taylor Harris and Nate Conner scored on a fielder's choice to make it 9-1.
Following a run in the fourth on a fielder's choice that scored Goodson, two bases-loaded walks to Drew Blalock and Tyler Myatt and a hit by pitch to Vogele in the fifth made it 13-1. Roane State responded with four runs in the top of the sixth, but Walters State scored 10 times in the bottom half of the inning. Those runs scored on a Hayden Blair two-RBI single, a Goodson three-run home run, a Kenny Cox RBI single, a Brantley Bamberg RBI double and a Bell three-run blast that made it 23-5.
