Colby upends Indy after trailing by 18
COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Community College Trojans extended their winning streak to five games with a thrilling 80-73 comeback victory over the Independence Community College Pirates on Thursday night at the Colby Event Center. The Trojans overcame an 18-point deficit, fueled by a dominant second-half performance.
Colby erupted for 53 points in the second frame after trailing 40-27 at the break. A Raphael Nagau-Trouart bucket at the 9:02 mark tied the game at 55, and the Trojans took the lead for good on the next possession when Maxence Massadila converted a three-point play after getting fouled on a baseline jump shot. Colby made free throws down the stretch and shot 70% overall from the line on 33 attempts.
The Trojans out-rebounded Indy 38-28. Eternity Eguagie led the Trojans with 16 points while grabbing seven rebounds, Nagau-Trouart added 15 points and seven rebounds, and Massadila scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. The Trojans' bench also contributed 24 points.
The Pirates were led by Chiante Tramble, who poured in a game-high 22 points.
With the win, the Trojans' record is 6-1 and 1-0 in the Jayhawk Conference. Colby looks to extend their streak when they host Coffeyville Community College (4-2, 1-0) on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start following the women's game.
