
Trojans drop series to Tritons
FORT DODGE - The NIACC baseball team dropped three games in a series to No. 14 Iowa Central at Harlan Rogers Park on Saturday and Sunday.
Iowa Central (33-6 overall, 17-2 in the ICCAC) won 3-2 and 13-3 in the Saturday twinbill and completed the sweep with a 13-12 victory in the single game on Sunday.
In the Sunday contest, NIACC collected nine hits to score its 11 runs. Tommy Lyman had three hits and two RBIs and Henry Mattox had two hits and two RBIs.
NIACC's Justyn Rivera hit a solo home run and scored three runs.
Iowa Central took a 13-6 lead with an eight-run seventh inning. NIACC responded to trim the deficit to 13-12 with a six-run eighth inning.
NIACC starting pitcher Carter Gunderson allowed two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks in four innings of work.
In the first game on Saturday, Iowa Central scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning. NIACC scored a single run in the third and fifth innings.
NIACC's Hudson Waldow was 2 for 3. The Trojans also picked up hits from Lincoln Becker, Lyman and Mattox.
NIACC starting pitcher Zack Johnson allowed three runs on one hit with seven strikeouts and two walks in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Jacob Crissinger tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief with four strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game on Saturday, Iowa Central scored eight runs in the first inning. The Tritons added a single run in the sixth inning, three runs in the seventh inning and one run in the eighth inning.
NIACC scored two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth inning.
Rivera collected two of NIACC's six hits, including a double. The Trojans also received singles from George McIntyre, Jacob Neutz, Lyman and Waldow.
NIACC's Caden Watson, in relief of starter Zach Lamont, did not allow a run in 4 1/3 innings of work. He allowed two hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
NIACC (14-25, 7-13) returns to action Wednesday at home in a single ICCAC contest against Southwestern CC. Game time at Roosevelt Field is slated for 1 p.m.
