
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2- ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team picked up their 78th straight home victory on Thursday night, defeating Missouri Valley College JV 109-27 to improve to 13-0 on the season. The 82-point victory is the third largest in the 24-game series history. JCCC 24-0 all-time against the Vikings.
Sophomore forward Aa'Mya Stacker scored a team and career-high 18 points and was one of seven Lady Cavaliers to reach double figures in scoring. Stacker hit 6-of-8 shots to up her season shooting percentage to 66.2 percent which leads the conference and ranks sixth among all NJCAA Division II players. She also was 6-of-8 at the free throw line and grabbed five rebounds.
Sophomore forward Yar Manyiel, who ranks second in the conference and 11th nationally in field goal accuracy at 61.3 percent, hit 5-of-8 shots and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the line to post 16 points.
Sophomore guard Aryanna Grassity and freshman guard Heaven Smith both set new season-highs in scoring. Grassity knocked down 4-of-7 3-point attempts and two free throws to finish with 14 points, and Smith was 4-of-6 shooting and 4-of-5 at the charity stripe to post 12 points and she dished out a season-high seven assists.
Freshman guard Layla Scott, the nation's leader in made 3-point baskets, made three more to score 13 points along with four boards and three steals. Freshman guard Kara Stricklin also made three treys to finish with 11 points and sophomore guard Taliya Scott posted a solid line of 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Freshman forward Tamia Smith with the top rebounder with 11, followed by sophomore guard Maizen Williams with 10. Smith also chipped in eight points.
No Missouri Valley JV player reached double figures. The Vikings were led by Yar Desper with seven points. JCCC held Missouri Valley to just 16.1 percent shooting.
Johnson County quickly built a double-digit lead in the first quarter then blew game wide open in the second period outscoring the Vikings 26-to-zero.
The Lady Cavaliers have one more game before the holiday break. William Penn University JV comes to town on Monday, December 9 for a 6 p.m., tip.
