Tyler, TX- The Apaches secured an impressive victory at home this past weekend, defeating the 25th-ranked Blinn Buccaneers, who are also second in Region XIV. The Apaches came out strong, starting the game with a 19-8 lead in the first quarter. However, they experienced a slight dip in performance during the second and third quarters.
The Buccaneers outscored the Apaches 14-12 in the second quarter, but the Apaches still led 31-24 at halftime. The third quarter saw another challenge as the Buccaneers closed the gap, outscoring the Apaches 11-8. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Apaches held a narrow 39-35 advantage.
But the Apaches dug deep in the fourth quarter, turning in an explosive performance that saw them outscore the Buccaneers 25-18 and secure a 64-51 victory.
While several key players stepped up to make critical plays and clutch shots, the team as a whole focused on strong defense, solid positioning, and intense transition play. The Apaches displayed excellent teamwork, particularly in transition, playing as a cohesive unit throughout the game.
Key players included Kyra Anderson, who recorded an outstanding double-double with 22 rebounds and 15 points, including 8 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points. Monica Bottley had another consistent game, contributing 12 points and 3 steals. Taler Thornton also played a pivotal role with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
