#12 Tribunes Dominates Sullivan County CC in 99-50 Blowout
#12 Monroe Community College delivered a dominant performance, defeating Sullivan County CC 99-50 with stellar shooting, relentless defense, and strong contributions from their deep roster.
ROCHESTER, NY— In a commanding fashion, the #12-ranked Monroe Community College team overwhelmed Sullivan County Community College with a 99-50 victory. Monroe set the pace early, building a 27-point lead by halftime and sustaining its dominance through a balanced offensive effort and suffocating defense.
First Half:
Monroe wasted no time asserting control, racing to a 44-17 halftime lead. Gemani Charles (Brooklyn, NY) led the way with an electric shooting performance, going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the opening period and scoring 12 of his game-high 17 points in the first half. Monroe's efficient ball movement and sharp three-point shooting (44.4% in the half) kept Sullivan's defense on its heels.
On the defensive end, Monroe stifled Sullivan's offense, holding them to just 33.9% shooting from the field for the game. Alvin Baez (Providence, RI) also made his presence felt, contributing nine points and two rebounds before the break.
Second Half:
Monroe continued to pile on in the second half, outscoring Sullivan 55-33. Their depth shone brightly as reserves Denarius McCurty (Syracuse, NY), with 10 points, and Delroy Smith (Hillside, NJ), with 10 points and 7 rebounds, made key contributions off the bench. Monroe's bench accounted for 59 of the team's 99 points, a testament to the depth on the roster.
Baez added another eight points in the second half, finishing with a strong stat line of 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Darien Blalock (Ossining, NY) chipped in with seven points and two assists in extended minutes.
Monroe's efficiency was staggering. They shot 50% from the field and disheveled 27 assists while committing just nine turnovers. Their defensive intensity also forced 29 turnovers from Sullivan, leading to 19 steals for the Tribunes.
Monroe's depth and balanced play have solidified their standing as a top contender. Their ability to dominate in all phases of the game will be critical as they continue their season.
