The Marian Ancilla Men's Basketball team returned to their winning ways Tuesday night, as they headed into Chicago to take on the Olive-Harvey Panthers. A strong shooting night (10-22 from 3-point range), plus a nice job of taking care of the ball, and the Chargers left town with a 78-73 victory to move to 8-1 overall on the year. What's more impressive is, the Chargers have played eight of those nine games away from home.
This marked the third consecutive game with leading scorer Jordan Woods out of the lineup, but the entire roster stepped up, as six different players made a 3-pointer, five collected 5 or more rebounds, four scored in double figures, and they only turned it over 11 times as a team.
Freshman guard Matt King was strong, scoring 19 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and handing out 3 assists. He was also 2-3 from downtown. Sophomore wing Dante Porch continued his strong play off the bench, contributing 15 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore guards Sean Kimble (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Ashton Oviedo (11 points, 3 assists) were the other two Chargers to reach double digits in points.
On the season, the Men's Basketball team is averaging 90.3 points, 45.3 rebounds, 19.2 assists, and 10.0 steals per game, while only turning it over 11.7 times per game, and shooting an impressive 47.1% from the field and 35.1% from 3-point range.
The Chargers now have a pair of home contests before they head into final exams, so please come out and support them, if you are able. Both games are the back ends of double-headers with the Women's team. Saturday, November 30th, the Men play Community Christian (MI) at approximately 3:00 p.m., then Wednesday, December 4th, they host the Bosco Institute (IN) at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the LifePlex.
