The Lumberjack Baseball team opened their season on the road with nine games in six days between South Dakota and Kansas. Over those nine games the Jacks went 6-3.
12-2 win over Dakota Wesleyan JV
The Jacks jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first and added two more in the top of the second. With three runs in the 5th and 6th the Jacks put the game away early winning in six innings by a score of 12-2. Kaeden Wilcox had a double and drove in two runs, Engerben Moreno also doubled and had 3 RBIs. Evan Pursifull completed a trio of Lumberjacks who doubled, and he also drove in a run. Dalton Vangorden drove in three runs despite not getting a hit. Kayden Cey and Joe Plett each had an RBI. Nathaniel McGill picked up the win on the mound, surrendering one run in five innings of work and striking out 3. Bryce Meyers had 2 strikeouts in relief.
7-0 loss to Dakota Wesleyan JV
The Jacks tailed just three hits in game two, one each from Dominic Holmstrup, Plett and Wilcox. Meyers and Plett each also swiped a base. Owen Taylor took the loss but had five strikeouts in four innings of work. Nicholas Jacobson had three strikeouts in relief. The Jacks were shutout falling 7-0.
11-6 loss to Minnesota North Vermillion
The Jacks held a narrow lead over the Ironhawks. Wilcox continued to have a hot bat as he homered and drove in two runs. Moreno and Holmstrup each drove in a run. Wilcox, Holmstrup, and Elijah Mata were each credited with a stolen base. On the mound Carter Ralston struck out three batters in four innings of work. Andrew Crowe took the loss but had four strikeouts in 3 innings of relief work. Nolan Wright came in and had one strikeout in an inning of work. The Jacks fell by a final score of 11-6.
15-7 win over Minnesota North Vermillion
Six run innings in both the third and sixth innings gave DCB the upper hand and to take a split of the series with the Ironhawks. McLeod Sell had a big game with a double and drove in four runs. Chris Losey, Vangorden, Mata, Holmstrup, and Plett each drove in one run. Ayden Ramirez had a double in a pinch-hitting effort. Logan Beck, Cey, Vangorden, Holmstrup, and Sell each picked up a stolen base. Hunter Hasen got the start and had two strikeouts on the mound. Emmanuel Perez picked up the win in relief. Derek Borino struck out five Ironhawks and gave up just one run in three innings of work. DCB took the game 15-7.
14-5 loss to Dakota Wesleyan JV
A big sixth inning from the Tigers would allow them to break the game open and take the win 14-5. Plett had two hits including a double and an RBI. Tatum Packer also drove in a run. Cey knocked in two. Grady Davis got the start and had four strikeouts on the mound. Connor Ellis worked one inning and had a strike out. Nicholas Jacobson had two strikeouts in two innings of work.
8-5 win over Minnesota North Hibbing
The Lumberjacks used a big sixth to rally and defeat Minnesota North Hibbing. DCB trailed 5-1 entering the bottom of the sixth. The Jacks scored 7 runs in the inning to take the lead 8-5. The Jacks held the Cardinals scoreless in the seventh to take the win. Plett had another double and drove in a run. Moreno and Wilcox each drove in two runs. Vangorden, and Cey each drove in a run. Meyers got the start on the mound and had one strikeout. Cade Buxton came in in relief and got the win. Ayden Lasson came in and closed the game out in the seventh inning to pick up the win striking out two.
9-4 win over Minnesota North Hibbing
For the second straight game DCB would use a big late inning to pick up the win over MNH. Trailing 4-2 in the fifth, the Jacks would score six runs in the inning and tack on an insurance run in the sixth to pick up the win 9-4. Cey doubled and had two RBIs to lead the Jacks offensive attack. Moreno, Plett, and Wilcox all drove in a run while Vangorden also doubled. Sell picked up another stolen base. Reed Wall got the start and gave up two runs. D'Angelo Bouctouche got the win in relief. Lasson shut the door and didn't allow a run in the last two innings.
8-3 win over Minnesota North Hibbing
Four runs in the second inning would put the Jacks out front for good. Wilcox had two more RBIs, and Moreno, Plett, and Pursifull each drove in a run. Hansen picked up the win on the mound with four strikeouts. Crowe and Borino each had three strikeouts in relief.
4-1 win over Minnesota North Hibbing
Two runs in each of the first two innings would be all the Jacks would need to take the series sweep of the Cardinals. Wilcox had two RBIs, Cey and Holmstrup each drove in a run as well. Packer and Cey each swiped two bases, and Sell also tallied a stolen base. McGill had three strikeout after starting on the bump. Taylor got the win and had four strikeouts in relief.
The Jacks record sits at 6-3. DCB takes off for Tucson later this week to play nine games for their spring break trip.
