Lakers Struggle Offensively in Loss to Mohawk Valley, 77-32

UTICA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against Mohawk Valley Community College, falling 77-32 on the road Sunday afternoon. Despite a strong effort to go 2-0 against the Hawks this season, the Lakers were unable to overcome shooting struggles and turnovers against a strong Mohawk Valley team that avenged an earlier season loss.

Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) led the Lakers with a solid all-around performance, finishing with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 8 steals, and 2 blocks. Kierra Shaughnessy (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) added 7 points and a team-high 6 rebounds, while Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) chipped in with 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Off the bench, Eliana Mason (Frederick, MD./New Life Christian) provided some scoring at the free-throw line, contributing 4 points and 6 rebounds in 31 minutes. Despite their efforts, the Lakers shot just 18% from the field and struggled from beyond the arc, converting only 1 of 16 attempts.

The Lakers' defense forced 12 steals, but they were unable to capitalize offensively, with 25 turnovers hindering their ability to gain momentum. The Lakers are back on the road this Wednesday, January 29th for a conference matchup with the Genesee Community College Cougars at 5 PM in Batavia, N.Y.
