Jayhawks Season Comes to an End
Jayhawks fall to highly ranked KVCC in Regional Semi Final
The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks season came to an end Thursday night a the Great Lakes B Semifinal #1 playoff game. The Jayhawks were defeated by the seventh-ranked team in the nation – the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougars (KVCC) 106-76 at the Ballenger Fieldhouse. The matchup was very similar to these team's meeting earlier in the season as the Cougars ran out to a 25-5 lead to start the game. The Jayhawks continued to scratch and crawl back but were outmanned and outscored 52-25 in the first half. The Jayhawks brought intensity on both sides o the ball in the second half but were still outscored 54-51. Sophomore guard Kevon Washington provided a final impressive performance in his last game as a Jayhawk, scoring 22 points and knocking down four three-pointers. Sophomore Will Chye, who was a consistent and efficient scoring guard all season finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Freshman Ny'Zhem Marshall suffered from foul calls, but he finished with 11 points, five rebounds, three steals, and four blocks in just 16 minutes of play. The loss brings an end to these Jayhawks' season that showcased each players resiliency, toughness, and hard work. The Jayhawks finish their season with an impressive 18-12 overall record. The Jayhawks finished in third place of the Northern Conference with a 10-4 record, and the Jayhawks added a top 15 ranked win to their resume in the process. The Jayhawks will lose the likes of sophomores Darius Williams, Joe Russau, Kevon Washington, Will Chye, Isaac Dehart, and Andrew Spyke who were all so valuable to Muskegon's success the past two seasons. But Muskegon also has a lot to look forward to next year as they will bring back freshman Ny'Zhem Marshall, Lamarkis Graham, Dajuan Garrett, Chaz Miller, Joel Katembo, Logan Klomp, and Owen Raeth.
