Despite Falling Behind Early, NCMC Downs Visiting Des Moines Area CC

In a tightly contested matchup, NCMC Lady Pirates basketball emerged victorious over Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) with a final score of 70-64 on Friday. The game showcased balanced scoring and gritty performances on both ends of the court.

NCMC's Jessica Reeter delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 26 points. Reeter's efficiency was remarkable, going 7-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and a crucial 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Her contributions extended beyond scoring, as she also grabbed two rebounds and committed just one turnover in a poised display.

Gladys Brown was instrumental in the paint and on the boards, posting a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Her hustle on both ends included four offensive rebounds, and her seven assists were a game-high, demonstrating her versatility and leadership. Meanwhile, Jacie Morris flirted with a double-double, contributing seven points and nine rebounds, including three on the offensive glass, while providing critical interior defense.

Off the bench, A'Myah Bankston and Kayanna Cranmer provided valuable scoring bursts, each tallying seven and six points, respectively. Bankston also added two rebounds and an assist, ensuring NCMC's depth remained a factor throughout the contest. Despite struggling from the field, Honor Mannings showcased her defensive acumen with a steal and three rebounds, keeping the DMACC reserves in check.

For DMACC, Mary Walker spearheaded their effort with 23 points, including six three-pointers on 12 attempts, while also recording six rebounds and six steals in an all-around effort. Joy Beran added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint. Chloe Costello chipped in 13 points off the bench, shooting 3-of-7 from three-point range to keep DMACC within striking distance.

Despite their efforts, DMACC struggled with turnovers, committing 14. NCMC capitalized on their rebounding advantage, pulling down 41 boards to DMACC's 33, including 14 on the offensive end. This edge translated into second-chance opportunities, allowing NCMC to maintain their lead during pivotal moments of the game.

The game came down to execution in the final minutes, where NCMC's composure at the free-throw line proved decisive. They hit 16-of-26 free throws, including clutch makes from Reeter and Morris, to seal the victory and cap off an impressive team effort.
