
The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team played three games this weekend against Barton Community College and took two of the games. Friday, Feb. 28 the Blue Devils fell to the Cougars 6-4 but bounced back on Saturday, Mar.1 to win both games with scores of 10-0 and 5-1.
In the first game, the Blue Devils struck first putting up three runs in the first two innings of play. After four deadlock frames, the Cougars were able to outscore the Blue Devils 6-1 in the seventh and eighth innings. Marcus Dierks was the only Blue Devil to record multiple hits as he went 2-3 from the plate and scored two times. Sawyer Tolk hit 1-3 but managed to bring in two base runners in the first inning.
Bryson Vawter started and went five innings allowing just one hit and four walks while striking out seven of the 21 batters he faced. Caleb Deer came in and let in two runs from three Cougar hits. Camden Brashear recorded the loss while letting in four runs in the .1 innings of work.
For the second game, the Blue Devils scored five runs each in the first and sixth inning to end the game early due to mercy rule. Holden Finley was the star of the show as he went 2-3 at the plate, added three RBIs and recorded his first collegiate double. Both Braden Horn and Marcus Dierks had two RBIs from their solo hit. Tanner Pachorek and Frankie Santiago both had two hits each and scored both times after getting on base.
Caleb Reed was electric from the mound as he threw for a shutout in all six innings of work. The Cougars were only able to record three hits, two walks and struck out a grand total of 10 times.
For the third game, both Santiago and Dierks recorded their first triples of the year while recording four hits and three runs combined. Brady Kern led the team off and went 2-4 from the plate while scoring one run. Freddie Nolen IV and Cade Parry each had a double to help boost the Blue Devil offense as they would win this game and lead to a 2-1 series against the Cougars.
Gavin Killion threw for 6.0 innings and let up just one run from the four Cougar hits. Killion struck out three batters and walked one. Caden Howell threw in the seventh inning and struck out two batters. Dylan Blazer came in and finished the game off with four strikeouts and allowed just two hits.
