MCC Falls to National Ranked KVCC
KVCC Too Much For The Jayhawks
December 9, 2024
The Jayhawks were dealt their third loss of the season 111-87 at the hands of the nationally ranked Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougars. The undefeated Cougars played their usual style; fast-paced offense used in conjunction with full-court defensive pressure for all 40 minutes of play. In the first half, the Jayhawks managed to keep up with the Cougars pace of play for the first ten minutes, but that was all. The Cougars were able to manufacture turnovers on the defensive end, causing the Jayhawks to throw the ball away eight times in just the first half of play. The Cougars were also efficient offensively in the first half, scoring 54 points and enjoying three players in double digits. Sophomore Kevon Washington led the Jayhawks with 16 points and Sophomore Will Chye added nine points of his own before the halftime buzzer sounded.
Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, they could not close the 16-point gap that was held by Kalamazoo Valley at halftime. The Cougars enjoyed the same success on both ends of court in the second half and poured in 57 more points before the final buzzer. Despite the loss, Kevon Washington finished with 22 points and five assists. Will Chye ended with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore forward Joe Russau finished with 15 points and ten rebounds.
The loss moves the Jayhawks record to 6-3 and the Jayhawks will hope to adjust quickly as they face off against another formidable Western Conference foe in Lansing Community College on Monday, December 9th at Lansing. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
