A 14-point halftime deficit and poor shooting led to a SUNY Broome loss on Sunday evening, 73-54.
The Hornets visited the sixth-best team in the Region III standings in North Country CC on Sunday. SUNY Broome entered halftime trailing 39-25, and it could not overcome the early deficit despite playing the Saints close in the second half.
There was a large disparity in the shooting percentages in the contest. Broome struggled to a 28.1% clip from the field and a 23.8% clip from behind the arc. North Country was more than 10 percentage points better in both categories, shooting 38.9% from the field and 36.4% from three. The Hornets did go 13-20 from the foul line while the Saints were 9-16.
Connor Green put together his fifth double-double in a row with a 13-point, 12-rebound performance. Antuan Darden just missed a double-double with his 12 points and nine rebounds, also adding a monstrous five blocks. Amauri Truax chimed in with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Ponce Williams was impactful off the Hornets' bench with eight points and four rebounds. Leading scorer Antonio Maria was limited to three points, four rebounds, and two assists in the loss.
SUNY Broome fell to 7-11 on the season with the defeat.
