
Philadelphia, PA. – The Salem Community College Mighty Oaks men's basketball team defeated the Community College of Philadelphia 83-70 to continue their run towards a spot in the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Tournament. With the victory the Mighty Oaks advance to the North Atlantic District B Finals. Salem will face off against the nationally ranked Montgomery County Community College Saturday at Northampton Community College.
The Mighty Oaks saw a balanced offensive night with four players scoring in double figures led by Jyheim Spencer who had a dominant game scoring 18 points while pulling down 19 rebounds to go along with 6 blocked shots for the Mighty Oaks. Also scoring 18 points, was Akeem Taylor who had a team high 6 assists and shot 50% from the field shooting 6 for 12 on the night. Freshman Tyrese Fortune added 18 points shooting an impressive 9 for 13 from the foul line. Rounding out the Mighty Oaks scoring in double figures was Tamir Powell with 14 points for Salem.
With the win the Mighty Oaks advance to the Northeast District finals, a first since the athletic department was brought back in 2019. Salem will travel to Northampton Community College Saturday March 1 where the finals will be hosted. Tip off is slated for 3:00PM against the NJCAA 13th ranked Montgomery County Community College.
