Colts take down the 4-4 Sharks of Suffolk Community College in a thrilling OT victory.
Middletown NY - On Thursday December 5th the SUNY Orange Colts took on the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College in a thrilling overtime affair.
The Colts started the game with a 7-0 lead after four minutes of play before the Sharks were able to obtain their first points of the game. With the lead cut down to just two points the Colts rallied back and maintained their lead they had from the start of the game. Going into quarter #2 the Colts have an eight point lead with a score of 19-11 and much like quarter number one both teams found success scoring the ball with the Colts able to keep their lead alive ending the first half with a five point cushion with a score of 27-22. In this very physical match-up against the Sharks there were a total of 12 personal fouls called between the two teams in the first half alone and a final total of 55 called fouls.
Quarter #3 it was the Colts who were able to score the first points of the second half, in this held the Colts forced a lot of misses by the Sharks and were able to capitalize on the other end and still the recipe for disaster as neither team can find away to stay out of foul trouble. After a what was an interesting third quarter with tempers flaring and multiple stoppages of play the Colts had a lead of 41-29 giving the Colts their largest lead of the game after a outscoring Suffolk 14-7.
This game was far from over as the Sharks came out of the break ready to go and went on to outscore the Colts 20-7. In the fourth quarter the Colts had two athletes exit the game due to foul troubles. With less than 35 seconds left in the game the Colts had an 8-point lead before the Sharks fought through resiliency and were able to tie the game up at 49 points with one last made basket with just over five seconds left in the regulation.
Heading into overtime, where mistakes and misses shots become costly and is where both teams will look towards their leaders to finish the long two hour stretch with a victory. Much like the first four quarters neither team could find a way to prevent their opponent from reaching the foul line. After five minutes of play the Colts came away victorious, the real story of this overtime was Freshman Guard #5 Adriana Vazquez who was responsible for 10 of the 14 points scored in overtime.
With this win the Colts move on to a 1-5 record and will take on the Knights of Community College of Rhode Island on Sat. December 7th for a 1:00 showdown.

Freshman Guard #5 Adriana Vazquez finished the game with a career high 28 points scored on 10/25 shooting. Vazquez made six of ten free throws leading the team in free throws made. Adrianna also added two rebounds, two assists and came away with five steals.
Freshman Guard #12 Shalesse Joyner finished as the teams second leading scorer scoring eight points on 4/5 shooting. Shalesse also added four rebounds and one steal to her night.
Sophomore Guard #11 Eva Bloom stepped up for the Colts in a huge way. Eva scored seven points on 1-5 shooting while also coming down with four rebounds and grabbing two steals. Bloom finished the game shooting 5/6 from the free throw line scoring crucial points in Overtime to help extend the lead for the Colts and end the game with a win.
