Newark, NJ - The Lady Wolverines of Essex County College picked up a key victory at Salem Community College 81-71. Essex was led by Natalie Fonseca with 23 points and 6 rebounds, while Basirat Amirashaun chipped in with 17 points and 16 rebounds. The Wolverines came out playing some efficient offense, scoring 22 points and limiting their opponents to 13 points. The Wolverines suffocating defense caused their opponents to turn the ball over 24 times and only shoot 31.7% from the field.
Mia Marie Thomas also chipped in with 17 points and 4 assists, while Katherinne Avecillas had 14 points with 6 rebounds. Essex on the day, had five different players score in double figures.
The Wolverines (2-3) will enjoy this week's Thanksgiving break, before returning to play Dec. 3rd vs Middlesex College at 5pm in the Cleo Hill Gym.
