Chester, PA—Unable to stay apace with Camden County Community College, the Delaware County Community College Men's Basketball team lost at home 73-61. "Turnovers and being a step behind defensively proved to be our Achilles' heel," said DCCC Head Coach Dwayne Saunders.
The Phantoms turned the ball over 22 times. While DCCC got "some energy defensively" from Kelvin Crawford and Tahmeire Manning (the latter returning to play after missing December action due to injury), according to Saunders, and outrebounded Camden 42-38, the team fell short in converting chances into stops and points.
"We gave up too many offensive rebounds and couldn't come up with the 50/50 balls," Saunders said. "Not being able to execute on the defensive end will always put any team at a deficit."
Coach Saunders highlighted solid performances offensively from Nasir Kelly and Jabree Martin. Martin shot seven of 10 from the field and hit a trio of threes for an 18-point outing. Kelly contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
He called on the Phantoms, now 6-11 overall with five conference wins, to elevate the team effort. "In order for us to win, we have to do it collectively," he said. "I'm looking forward to getting back in the gym." DCCC hits the road for its next two games, starting with RCSJ-Gloucester on Saturday Jan 18.
