Ontiveros homers twice in Baseball's 11-10 loss at Yavapai

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 25 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (25-9, 11-6) dropped the opener of a three-game series with Yavapai (17-11, 8-10) on Friday afternoon at Roughrider Park in Prescott, Ariz., despite a two-home run performance from Andres Ontiveros.

Ontiveros went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four runs batted in while Gerardo Castro doubled twice, going 2-for-5 with an RBI in the loss.

The Matadors scored four runs in the first inning to get out to a 4-0 lead highlighted by a leadoff home run from Javier Diaz.

Yavapai scored nine of their 11 runs between the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 10-7 lead over the Matadors.

Arizona Western rallied to tie the game, scoring a run in the seventh inning and adding two more in the eighth before the Roughriders walked off winners with a home run in the bottom of the ninth.

Bronson Neave went 2-for-4 with a double and Nathan House also finished with two hits, going 2-for-6.

The Matadors and Roughriders conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 21, beginning at Noon in Prescott, Ariz., at Roughrider Park.
