ACC Men Lose to Community Christian
It may be an overused adage to say that afinal score wasn't indicative of the how close a game actually was, but Saturday afternoon's home opener for the ACC men's basketball team fit into that category.
While the Lumberjacks lost to Detroit Community Christian College by a score of 79-67, the 12-point margin of victory was one of the largest leads of the game, as for most of the contest, it was a back and forth effort between the two teams.
ACC's last lead of the game was at 10-9, but the Jacks trailed only 39-33 at the half and for most of the second half, the lead was between four and eight. With six minutes to, two free throws by Robert Williams cut the Lions' advantage to three, at 59-56. ACC would get no closer the rest of the way.
Derian Williams led ACC with 17 points. Dezmond Gilleylen had 16 points and six rebounds. Robert Williams scored 13 points. Chas Stanek contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams struggled from behind the 3-point line with ACC shooting 4 for 24 (16.7%), DCCC 4 for 22 (18.2%); and at the free throw line with the Lumberjacks just 11 for 22 (50%) and the Lions 15 for 29 (51.7%). DC3 held a 52-39 rebounding advantage leading to 14 second-chance points compared to just six for ACC.
The Lumberjacks, now 1-2 on the young season, play at Glen Oaks Community College on Friday, Nov. 29 and at Southwestern Michigan College on Saturday, Nov. 30.
