
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball needed just one quarter to cement their fifth consecutive Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II title, outscoring Fort Scott 21-4 on their way to a 88-23 victory. It is the 10th conference title under head coach Ben Conrad and 12th for the program.
With the win, the Cavaliers extend their home court win streak to 89 straight and their regular season win streak to 62 consecutive victories.
Sophomore forward Yar Manyiel, who posted a monster double-double of 17 points and 23 rebounds in JCCC's win over Ottawa JV last Monday night, was a rebound shy of double-double in first half finishing12 points and nine boards. She added nine more rebonds in the second half to post to finish with 12points and 18 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
Freshman guard Jamaya McPherson also tallied 12 first-half points on her way to 21 for the game to lead the Cavaliers. She made 9-of-16 shots with a 3-pointer and two free throws.
Freshman guard Kara Stricklin paced JCCC's bench with 14 points draining 4-of-6 beyond the arc.
Sophomore point guard Taliyah Scott contributed nine points, five rebounds and five assists and freshman guard Tamiah Smith added seven points and four boards in her return to the floor after suffering an injury late in the win over Allen.
Freshman guard Layla Scott reached a milestone in the final seconds of the first quarter when she drained a 3-point backet, giving her 100 for the season becoming just the fifth player in program history to reach that total. She would finish with seven points on the day.
No player from Fort Scott reached double figures in scoring. They were led by Kyleigh Scroggins with eight, followed by Marie Han with seven.
Johnson County shot 52 percent for the game, while holding the Greyhounds to just 14 percent.
The Cavaliers will look to close out the regular season undefeated on Wednesday when they travel to Hesston face the Larks. With a victory it would be the third time in Conrad's career and second straight campaign to finish the regular season perfect.
