RedTails Win Against Braves

The RedTail Softball team finished out their opening weekend in Burlington at Southeastern Community College's Turf Tournament. The RedTails went 1-1 on the day, losing to Indian Hills Community College 12-0 in five innings and winning 8-5 against Black Hawk College.

 

Game 1: 12 (IHCC), 0 (HCC)

The bats were hot for Indian Hills straight away, scoring a majority of their runs in the first inning. They scored 11 runs on 10 hits and two RedTail errors.

Lucy Lebo started things off in the first with a double, but the RedTails were unable to capitalize.

The defense for the RedTails improved after the first inning, holding Indian Hills to just one more run in the second, and keeping them from scoring for the next three innings.

The RedTails were unable to get their bats going, ending the game with a 12-0 loss in five innings.

At the plate, Lebo and Delaney Eickert each had a hit. On the mound, Jordan Eads took the loss, giving up eight hits, eight earned runs, and one strikeout. Adelyn Sienknecht gave up five hits, four runs, zero earned, and one strikeout.

 

Game 2: 8 (HCC), 5 (BCC)

The Braves for Black Hawk College started the top of the first inning by scoring three runs. This came from two doubles and two RedTail errors.

Behind 3-0, the RedTails came back to tie the game up in the bottom of the first. Eads led off the inning with a single, Lebo and Eickert both drew walks to load the bases, and Dharma Woodruff walked to score the first run. Lizzy Hamand then stepped up and singled to score two, making the game a 3-3 tie.

The Braves went up 4-3 in the top of the third, scoring from a double and fielder's choice.

Not to be outdone, the RedTails started the bottom of the third with another walk by Woodruff. Hamand doubled and then Rylie Devlin doubled to score both, giving the RedTails a 5-4 lead.

Black Hawk responded by scoring their fifth and final run of the game in the top of the fourth.

With a tied game, in the bottom of the fifth, Woodruff hit a double and scored on a Mya Chamberlin double. Hamand then hit a single to advance Chamberlin, and Hailey Harbour stepped in to hit a clutch single to score two. Emilee Bergmann hit a single herself, but the RedTails were held with their three runs, making the score 8-5.

Hawkeye was able to shut down the offense of the Braves to win.

At the plate, the RedTails were lead by Hamand, who was 4-4 with two runs batted in and one run scored. Woodruff was 2-2 with two runs scored, one run batted in, and two walks. Five other RedTails added hits of their own.

On the mound, Mya Chamberlin went the distance to pick up her first collegiate win. She pitched seven innings, giving up seven hits, five runs, three earned, two walks, and seven strikeouts.

 

The RedTails move to 1-3 on the season. The next games are February 28th, March 1st, and March 2nd when the RedTails travel to Highland Community College – Kansas, Metropolitan Community College, and North Central Missouri College respectively.
