SENATOBIA, Miss. — The No. 13 Pearl River softball hit a rough patch Sunday afternoon on the road against No. 9 Northwest, falling twice to the Rangers. NWCC won game one 8-0 and game two 6-4.
GAME ONE
Pearl River (18-9 overall; 2-2 MACCC) dug itself into an early hole against Northwest (21-3; 2-2) in the first game as it stranded two runners in the top of the first before the Rangers plated a trio of runs in the bottom half, moving ahead 3-0.
Starting pitcher Ana-Grace Garcia (Baton Rouge, La.; Central) settled down in the second and third innings. The freshman right-hander struck out a pair in a three-up, three-down second inning. She worked around a walk in the third to retire the side.
Northwest added a run in the bottom of the fourth as a leadoff triple turned into an RBI groundout, 4-0. The Rangers ended the game in a run-rule in the fifth, scoring four additional runs to beat the Wildcats 8-0 in five innings.
Garcia threw 4 1/3 innings. She struck out five batters but allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks.
