On Thursday evening, New Mexico Military picked up their second conference, as they defeated Clarendon College 78-62 in Clarendon, TX. With the win, the Broncos improve to 7-20 on the year with a 2-12 conference mark. With the loss, Clarendon dips to 12-16, with a 2-12 record in conference play.
Head coach Sean Schooley on last night's win, "We rebounded extremely well, Bramao had 15 and David Popa had 13. You know that goes a long way in being successful. We played really good defense and just didn't have any lulls in our scoring last night," Schooley said.
After taking a 43-42 lead, the Broncos never looked back as they never gave up their lead.
"It was a good win because we were steady and consistent for 40 minutes. We turned the ball over a little but we took care of the ball down the stretch and made our free throws," Schooley said. "Any conference win is good but you get one on the road, in a tough environment against a competitive team it feels good. Hopefully we can build off this into next week with our final two games at home," Schooley said.
Justin Bramao finished a double-double, scoring 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting from the field, while grabbing 15 rebounds in the process. David Popa ended the game with a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Broncos. As a team, NMMI shot just over 60 percent while holding the Bulldogs to 42 percent from the field.
The Broncos close out the regular season with a pair of home games next week. First, the Broncos host NMJC at 7:00 p.m. MST on Monday, March 3, before hosting Western Texas College on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. MST.
