Bears drop opening pair of games to the San Jac Ravens

The Baton Rouge Bears kicked off their 2025 home schedule with a three-game series against the San Jacinto Ravens today at Pete Goldsby Field. Unfortunately, the Bears struggled to contain the Ravens' powerful offense, suffering losses of 15-0 in game one and 13-4 in game two of the doubleheader.
Game One
The Bears faced a tough challenge in game one, losing 15-0 in just five innings. The Ravens capitalized on some inconsistent pitching from the Bears in the first inning, scoring five runs to take an early lead. San Jacinto continued their offensive surge, adding three runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 8-0. The Ravens further increased their advantage with a three-run homer by Landon Hunt, making it 11-0 after three innings. The Bears had several chances to score but could not string together consecutive hits, leaving many runners stranded. San Jacinto concluded their scoring with a two-run homer by Z Grigalis in the fifth inning, sealing the 15-0 victory.
Klayton Wingfield started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching only two-thirds of an inning and allowing five runs on two hits while walking four and striking out one. Cade Robin (1.1 innings), Grant Porche (1.0 innings), and Jack Cowan (2.0 innings) relieved Wingfield. A. Diaz started for the Ravens and earned the win, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits, walking two, and striking out nine.

Game Two
In the second game, the Bears' offense showed some improvement, but they still could not contain the Ravens, losing 13-4 in eight innings. The Ravens took advantage of two walks and an error in the first inning to score two runs. They added a run in the third inning, making it 3-0. The Ravens capitalized on two fielding errors by the Bears in the fourth inning to score three more runs, increasing their lead to 6-0.
Through the first four innings, the Bears had difficulty putting together hits. They finally broke through in the fifth inning, with Jacob Covington leading off with a walk and scoring on a passed ball, making it 10-1. The Bears began to string together hits in the sixth inning, with Peyton Chiasson, Brayden Bertucci, and Jacob Covington hitting consecutive singles to load the bases. Chiasson scored on a wild pitch, and Bertucci and Covington scored on a double by Kenneth Berard. The Ravens added another run in the seventh inning for an 11-4 lead, and concluded their scoring with two more runs in the eighth, bringing the final score to 13-4. Even though the Bears outhit the Ravens 11 to 10, they committed four errors, which proved costly.
Cole Cranford started for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits, while walking two and striking out five. Nash Tamplet (1.1 innings), Kaiden Broussard (1.1 innings), Grayson Davis (2.0 innings), and Chase Kelley (0.2 innings) pitched in relief. P. Lewis started for the Ravens and earned the victory, pitching four scoreless innings with three hits allowed, walking two, and striking out nine.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Ravens improved to 2-0, while the Bears fell to 0-4 on the season.
The Bears and Ravens will conclude their three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, February 2, with a single nine-inning game starting at 1 PM at Pete Goldsby Field.
