
Friday, February 21: PVCC 15, SMCC 9
Jude Almaraz drove in five runs on two hits to lead the Pumas past South Mountain 15-9 on Friday. Almaraz hit a home run to left field in the ninth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring two.
The Pumas collected 14 hits, and the Cougars had 18 in the high-scoring affair.
The Pumas got on the board in the top of the first inning after Erick Dessens doubled to left field, and Logan Yule grounded out, each scoring one run.
After SMCC scored four runs, the Pumas took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fourth thanks to singles by Isaac McNair-Seigler, and Almaraz. The Pumas scored one run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to right field by Yule and scored three runs in the top of the ninth on a home run to left field by Almaraz.
Noah Darnell earned the win for the Pumas. The right-handed pitcher surrendered 12 hits and five runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking one. Dylan Droelle collected the save. Eli Lipinski, Brody Livingston, and Kaleb Williams each appeared in relief for the Pumas.
The Pumas piled up 14 hits in the game. Dessens led the team with three hits in six at bats. Jared Swarbrick and Seigler each collected multiple hits the Pumas. The Pumas turned two double plays in the game.
Saturday, February 22: PVCC 10, SMCC 6
Jared Swarbrick collected three hits in five at bats, as the Pumas defeated South Mountain 10-6 on Saturday to complete the two-game sweep. Swarbrick hit a home run to left field in the fourth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the third inning.
The Pumas got on the board in the second inning after Alex Sanchez hit a solo home run to left field.
After the Cougars captures a 4-1 lead, the Pumas jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Erick Dessens singled, scoring one run, and Swarbrick homered to left field, scoring three runs.
John Witt earned the win for the Pumas. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and five runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. Dylan Droelle tossed one inning of scoreless ball for the Pumas in relief. The left-handed pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
The Pumas piled up nine hits in the game. Dessens and Cooper Holtorf each collected multiple hits for the team.
