Lady Owls Roll in Monroe Classic

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team took care of business in their first road trip of the season at the Monroe Community College Classic over the weekend, dominating Erie Community College, 109-40 on Saturday before defeating host Monroe, 85-71 in their Sunday matchup.

Prince George's was dominant from the opening tip against Erie's Kats on Saturday with all eleven players that entered the contest having scored by the final horn. Freshman Kryslynn Stewart led the team and picked up a double-double in the lopsided victory, finishing with 29 points, 10 rebounds. Tamia Washington and Nia Grymes came off the bench to add 19 and 15 points, respectively. As a team the Owls shot 49% from the floor in the win, while holding Erie to fewer than ten points in three of four quarters to kick off the weekend in the win column.

Sunday's matchup against Monroe's Tribunes was much tighter with the score knotted up at 18 after the first period to test the Owls early. Prince George's would outscore Monroe by a combined 19 points over the next two quarters to head into the final ten minutes with a comfortable lead. The Tribunes began to cut into the Owls lead but were never able to come within single digits as time ticked away. Five different Owls scored in double figures in the victory, led by Nia Grymes who poured in 21 points, again coming off the bench. Nyla Buyck (17 points, 10 rebounds), Kryslynn Stewart (13 points), Aaliyah Membrino (10 points), and Tamia Washington (10 points) rounded out the top scorers for the day.

With the pair of wins, the Owls improved to 3-0 on the year with all three contests coming against DII programs as Prince George's looks to continue to make themselves known among their new divisional opponents in their first season back as a DII challenger. Up next is their first conference game of their season at home against Anne Arundel on Tuesday, November 19th at 5 PM.
