Sharks defeat Daytona, 109-81
The Miami Dade Sharks secured a decisive 109-81 victory over Daytona State College, showcasing a balanced and potent offensive performance. The Sharks established an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 28-23, and significantly widened the gap in the second quarter by outscoring the Falcons 29-8, leading to a 57-31 advantage at halftime.
Shameir Quimby led the charge for Miami Dade, posting a monster double-double with 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kiara Harris added 23 points, including three crucial three-pointers, while also contributing 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Cleaira Peterson was dominant on the boards with 14 rebounds to complement her 21 points, solidifying the Sharks' interior presence. Jazmyne Bynum and Jamesha Card rounded out the scoring with 15 points each, while Miami Dade collectively shot an impressive 49.4% from the field and controlled the glass with 53 rebounds.
Miami Dade's defense was equally as strong, forcing 21 turnovers and recording 13 steals, which translated into numerous fast-break opportunities. The Sharks also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Falcons 53-45, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to multiple second-chance points.
Despite the loss, Daytona State had notable performances from forward Nella Klapkova, who scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, and center Kyaija Stewart, who added 17 points and 5 rebounds. However, the Falcons struggled with shooting efficiency, hitting only 38.1% from the field and 23.8% from beyond the arc.
This victory improves Miami Dade's record to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while Daytona State falls to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the conference. The Sharks will take the next 12 days off before taking on Pensacola State and Mississippi Gulf Coast on New Year's Eve.
