Lions to Meet Herkimer in NJCAA DIII Tournament Wednesday

Dallas College Mountain View men's basketball team will meet host Herkimer College in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Tournament next 1 p.m. CT Wednesday in Herkimer, New York.

The 12th-seeded Lions (15-18) are making their first appearance at the national tournament since winning it all in 2011. They earned the program's third national tournament bid by winning the NJCAA Division III South Central District Tournament last week. Fifth-seeded Herkimer (23-4) received one of the four at-large bids, two which were awarded to teams from Region 3. The Generals fell to Mohawk Valley Community College in the North District championship.

Dallas College Richland (20-11) also received an at-large bid as the No. 9 seed.

The winner of Mountain View-Herkimer will play fourth-seeded Sandhills (27-6) in Thursday's 2 p.m. CT quarterfinals. The 12-team field will crown a champion Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. CT.

Mountain View sophomore swingman Ashton Price averages 24.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Price is third in the country in scoring. Sophomore forward Augustine Chibuko is scoring 14.2 points, grabbing 8.9 rebounds, blocking 2.1 shots and coming up with 1.1 steals per game. Sophomore point guard Louis Conner averages 8.5 points, an NJCAA Division III-leading 8.1 assists and two steals per game. Freshman guard Jeremiah Talib is scoring 8.4 points, and sophomore guards Noel Duplechain 7.8, Tracy White 7.0 and Adrian Banks 6.2, respectively.

Herkimer's sophomore guard Jayson McGhee is averaging 15.1 points and five rebounds, while shooting 78 percent from the three-point line. Sophomore swingman Oladele Oladitan averages 13.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Freshman forward Kenny Freeman is scoring 12.7 points, shooting 58 percent from the field, and grabbing 6.2 boards and blocking two shots per game. Sophomore guard/forward Tajuan Thomas is averaging 11.9 points, shooting 55 percent, and pulling down 6.9 rebounds.

Herkimer was last year's national runner-up, falling to Dallas College North Lake.
