Herkimer Softball Opens Up Region III Play with Win at SUNY Niagara

The Herkimer Generals Softball Team kicked off Region III play with a strong offensive performance, defeating SUNY Niagara 11-6 on the road.

Herkimer's offense exploded early, scoring five runs in the second inning and maintaining control throughout the game. The Generals tallied 11 hits and capitalized on seven errors by SUNY Niagara to secure the victory.

Jessica Zalucki sparked the offense from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Jazelle Rivera and Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo each drove in three runs, while Alexis Broderick added three RBI of her own on a 2-for-5 day at the plate.

On the defensive side, sophomore pitcher Kerrigan Crysler (1-3) went the distance, throwing all seven innings. She allowed six runs on 11 hits, striking out seven and walking four to pick up the win.

Despite a four-run fifth inning from SUNY Niagara, the Generals responded with runs in each of the last three innings to put the game out of reach. Kimora Brown (2-for-3, RBI, three stolen bases) and Aubrey Lewis (2-for-5, double) also contributed key performances.

SUNY Niagara was led by Caitlyn Hanley, who drove in three runs and pitched all seven innings, giving up 11 runs (five earned) on nine hits while striking out five.
