Lady Wolves Celebrate Sophomore Night With Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team celebrated Sophomore Night hosting Gulf Coast for the regular season finale on Monday, March 3. The Lady Wolves overcame a sluggish start as they beat the Bulldogs, 54-43.

Both teams struggled offensively over the opening minutes of the first quarter as the Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves, 6-4, to hold a lead by that margin with 4:46 remaining. The Bulldogs then scored five unanswered points to push their lead to 11-4 with 1:56 left to play. The Lady Wolves scored two points as the buzzer sounded to cut the lead down to 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Wolves opened the second quarter with a 4-2 scoring run to cut the lead down to 13-10 with 5:14 left on the clock. The teams then matched scoring outputs adding six points each as the Bulldogs held a 19-16 lead with 2:49 remaining in the first half. The Lady Wolves closed out the half with a 4-2 scoring run, but the Bulldogs held a 21-20 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves opened the second half with six unanswered points to take a 26-21 lead over the Bulldogs with 6:59 left to play. The Lady Wolves then used an 8-2 scoring run to push their lead to 34-23 with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter. The Lady Wolves closed out the quarter with a 6-5 scoring run to hold a 40-28 lead over the Bulldogs heading to the final quarter of play.

The Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with 11 unanswered points as they cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 40-39 with 6:53 remaining. The Lady Wolves responded with 13 unanswered points as they pushed their lead to 53-39 with 2:02 left to play in the game. The Bulldogs closed out the game with a 4-1 scoring run, but the Lady Wolves secured the 53-43 victory as the final buzzer sounded.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the way offensively for the Lady Wolves as she narrowly missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds, the points were a game-high while the rebounds were a shared team high, with five assists and two steals while Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) came off the bench and scored a career-high 16 points with two rebounds with Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) adding 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) and Chrystance Walters (Pearl) had four points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin finishes the season 15-14 overall, 5-9 in MACCC play.
