No. 8 Walters State fall 11-7 to Southwest Tennessee in series finale

MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 8 Walters State fell 11-7 in the series finale to Southwest Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Senators fell to 18-4-1 overall and 8-4 in TCCAA play. 

At the plate, Jack Vogele had three RBIs while Tyler Myatt homered and had two hits. Kole Fenton, Holden Pantier and Kenny Cox each had two hits as well.

On the mound, Gage Peterson (2-2) got the start and threw 3.2 innings. Peterson allowed four runs on four hits while striking out four. Brady Scott replaced Peterson with two outs in the fourth and threw the next 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits while striking out one. Brayden Blankenship threw the next 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits before Matthew Porchas pitched the final 1.1 innings. Porchas didn't allow a hit and struck out three.

Southwest Tennessee broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with seven runs. Walters State got a run back in the fifth with an error that scored Taylor Harris, but Southwest answered back with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to grab a 10-1 advantage. 

In the seventh, the Senators rallied. Following a fielder's choice that scored Cox to make it 10-2, Walters State loaded the bases for Vogele who cleared them with a 3-RBI double. The Senators scored one final time in the inning as Pantier singled home Vogele to make it 10-6. 

However, Southwest got a run back in the eighth to make it 11-6. Myatt homered in the ninth to cut the lead to 11-7, but that was the closest they could get.

Walters State will be back in action on Monday, hosting Alpena Community College. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 pm ET.
