Baton Rouge, LA
The Baton Rouge Lady Bears opened their Louisiana Community College Athletic Conference play this evening against the Delgado Lady Dolphins at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. The Lady Bears utilized two strong offensive quarters and aggressive defensive pressure to secure a 79-62 conference victory over the Lady Dolphins.
Right from the start, the Lady Bears played with passion and intensity on both ends of the floor. They established a ten-point lead midway through the first quarter at 15-5, fueled by the efforts of Kinsley James, DeZarae Stewart, and Zoriahn Davis. Their aggressive defense kept the Lady Dolphins to single possessions on the offensive end. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Dolphins 31-16 in the first quarter.
The second quarter mirrored the first as the Lady Bears continued to apply pressure on defense, forcing the Lady Dolphins into taking difficult shots while succeeding offensively themselves. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Dolphins 18-12, taking a commanding twenty-one-point lead into halftime with a score of 49-28.
In the third quarter, the Lady Bears continued their offensive prowess, outscoring the Lady Dolphins 21-14 and extending their lead to twenty-eight points, 70-42, by the end of the period.
Although the Lady Dolphins began to find some offensive success in the fourth quarter, it was not enough to overcome the deficit. They outscored the Lady Bears 20-9 in that quarter, but the Lady Bears still emerged victorious with a final score of 79-62, achieving their first conference win of the season.
Kinsley James led the Lady Bears in scoring with a game-high 19 points, while Miracle Irving led the Lady Dolphins with 17 points. The Lady Bears had three student-athletes score in double figures: Davis, LeBlanc, and James. The Lady Dolphins had four players reach double figures.
With this victory, the Lady Bears improved their record to 9-5 (1-0), while the Lady Dolphins fell to 1-14 (0-1) for the season. Baton Rouge leads the all-time series against Delgado with 36 wins and 11 losses.
