Mallory propels Viking baseball team to pair of wins
Glen Oaks takes two against Southeastern Illinois.
The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team picked up its first two wins of the spring season as it swept Southeastern Illinois College Monday in Carbondale, Ill. Due to field conditions the teams played at Southern Illinois University, where they'll also play a doubleheader Tuesday. And Caleb Mallory is in no rush to get home after a stellar afternoon.

Mallory drove in four runs on two hits to give GOCC a big offensive boost. Mallory hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the third inning, scoring two. Southeastern scored on a walk in the bottom of the first, but Glen Oaks got hot in the top of the third, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 5-1 lead. Mallory doubled to drive in a pair of runs in the inning. Two frames later, the Vikings put up another five-spot on three hits. Peyton Simmonssingled, scoring two runs, and Mallory homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Andrew Onuegbu got the win for GOCC after the right-hander gave up just one hit and one earned run in four and a third innings. He finished with three strikeouts and four walks.
Glen Oaks Community College had nine hits in the game, Braeden Becker led Glen Oaks Community College with three hits in four at bats. Simmons recorded two hits in three at bats. As a team, the Vikings drew nine walks in a patient outing, which included two apiece from Steven Drewyor and Logan O'Malley. O'Malley also stole two bases in the game.
