Miami Dade Falls to Northwest Florida in High-Scoring Battle, 10-6
Northwest Florida State College overcame an early deficit to defeat Tthe Sharks 10-6 in a hard-fought matchup. Despite outhitting the Raiders 11-5 and playing error-free defense, the Sharks couldn't hold off a pair of big innings from the home team.
Miami Dade struck first, scoring in four consecutive innings. Santiago Carriles-Alvarado drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly in the second. He later added an RBI single in the third, plating David Zamora. Zamora doubled home another run in the fourth, and Carriles contributed again in the fifth with an RBI groundout, putting the Sharks ahead 4-0.
However, Northwest Florida responded with a massive fourth inning, scoring four runs to tie the game. Ira Jefferies-Harris started the rally with a two-run single, followed by runs scoring on a hit-by-pitch and a bases-loaded walk.
The Raiders kept the momentum going in the fifth, as David Alvarez's RBI single gave them their first lead. Moments later, Jefferies-Harris delivered the biggest blow of the night, launching a three-run home run to extend the lead to 8-4.
Henry Allen added insurance in the sixth with a two-run homer, making it a 10-4 game. Miami Dade attempted a late comeback, scoring twice in the seventh on an RBI single from Willy Mendez and a double by Talan Beckford, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Brandon Olivera started for the Sharks, allowing four runs on just one hit but struggling with control, walking three and hitting a batter. Luis Rodriguez took the loss, surrendering six earned runs over 2.1 innings.
Despite the loss, Miami Dade had strong performances at the plate. Zamora, Carriles-Alvarado, and Adrian Poviones each recorded two hits, while Beckford added two RBIs.
