Bears swept by San Jac Ravens

The Baton Rouge Bears and the San Jacinto Ravens wrapped up their three-game series this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field, with the Ravens completing the sweep with a 13-3 victory in game three.
The Ravens struck first, scoring a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Bears. Baton Rouge tied the game in the second inning when Conner Kleinpeter crossed home plate after a single by Brayden Bertucci to right field.
San Jacinto capitalized on inconsistent pitching, a fielding error, and a three-run homer by R. Furcal Jr., scoring ten runs in the top of the third inning to take an 11-1 lead. The Bears managed to respond with two runs when Layne Swanson led off with a walk and Aidan Machado was hit by a pitch. Swanson scored on an infield ground out by Kenneth Berard, while Machado crossed home plate on a passed ball, leaving the Bears trailing 11-3 after three innings.
The Ravens added another run in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 12-3. San Jacinto tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth inning, increasing their lead to 13-3.
Baton Rouge threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Trent LaPorte doubled off the left-center field wall, and Jake Brouillette followed with a single to left field. However, both runners were left stranded.
Owen Ponthieux started on the mound for the Bears and was tagged with the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 2 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. Jayse Degruy (0.2 innings), Dylan Cedotal (1.0 inning), and Conner Mayeux (2.0 innings) provided relief for Baton Rouge. H. Shelby started on the mound for the Ravens, earning the victory after pitching 3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 1 hit, walking none, and striking out 2.
San Jacinto outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 3, and the Bears committed 3 errors in the game.
With the loss the Bears fell to 0-5 while San Jacinto improved to 3-0 on the young season. San Jacinto leads the all time series with 18 wins and 3 losses over Baton Rouge.

The Bears will be back in action this Tuesday, February 4, when they travel to Hammond, Louisiana, to take on the Southwest Mississippi Bears at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University. First pitch is set for 6 PM.
