NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team hosted their final contests at home this year during the regular season Tuesday at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk against No. 4 Des Moines Area Community College. The Hawks fell in a tightly-contested Game 1 by a final score of 3-2 and dropped Game 2, 12-1.
Northeast (20-29, 8-16 ICCAC) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning of the first showdown of the day after Allie Funderburk (Starke, Fla.) singled to score Rachel Hobbs (Hoskins, Neb.) and Malika Monroe (Valentine, Neb.) singled to plate Talia Bandt (Grand Island, Neb.). Isabel Raburn (Holdrege, Neb.) was dominant in the circle as she held the nationally-ranked Bears to just eight hits and struck out seven different batters.
Game 2 was a different story for the Hawks as the bats for DMACC got going, but Hobbs did drive in another run in the fourth inning to continue her hot streak of late at the plate. Northeast will have a quick turnaround as they will compete in their final non-conference series of the season in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. tomorrow in Columbus, Nebraska against Central Community College.

Sharpe on heading to Columbus tomorrow:
"If we compete like we competed in Game 1 today, we should walk away pretty happy tomorrow," Sharpe said. "Getting some non-conference games in to break up our conference schedule is something I am looking forward to."
