Miami Dade Edges St. Thomas in Pitching Duel, 2-1
Behind a strong pitching performance and a clutch fifth-inning rally, Miami Dade secured a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas University in a tightly contested matchup.
St. Thomas struck first in the fourth inning when Arlene Sordo delivered an RBI double to right field, scoring Aranxa Olvera to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. However, Miami Dade responded in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on a key two-run single from Amanda Handa that brought home Sofia Eriksson and Mayah Bostic, giving the Sharks a 2-1 lead.
Pitching was the difference-maker for Miami Dade, as Carina Amarilla started strong, allowing just one run on three hits over four innings while striking out eight. Maria Julia Pedroso came in for relief and was dominant, tossing three shutout innings and allowing just one hit to secure the win.
On the offensive side, Eriksson played a crucial role, notching a double and scoring the Sharks' first run. Handa led the team with two RBIs and also swiped a base.
For St. Thomas, Johana Magaldi pitched five solid innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out four, but the lack of run support proved costly.
