The Colts fall one short of a double digit win streak

On Saturday Jan. 11th the Colts took on the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College and the Thunderwolves of SUNY Niagara. This is the second time this season that the Colts are facing off against the Lions this season with the last time these two teams facing off ended with the Colts securing the Victory 98-90 in overtime, The Colts have not faced off against the Thunderwolves since Nov. 1st 2019 where the Colts came away with the victory 71-63.
In the first game the Colts started off trailing on the scoreboard for the first four minutes of the game until Jabari Phillip tied the score at 11 points a piece followed by a free throw to complete the and-1 finish and give the Colts their first lead of the game. The Colts would then extend their lead by almost ten points before forcing Raritan Valley to call the games first timeout of the game. In the first half of the game SUNY Orange was able to secure a 13 point lead going into halftime coming from the likes of Jabari Phillip who scored 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Marquis Gill who scored nine points on 4 of 7 shooting while dishing out three assists. By outscoring the Lions 54-41 this is the first time this season where the Colts have scored 50 or more points in the first half and just the third time they have scored more than 50 points in either halves this season.
After the halftime break the Colts sat with a comfortable lead as they looked to increase their margin and put this game to rest. Scoring 42 points to the Lions 38 the SUNY Orange Colts defeat the Lions of Raritan Valley 96-79, the Colts move on to a 2-0 record against the Lions this season and an overall record of 13-1. In this game the Colts finished with a team total of 25 rebounds which is the lowest amount of rebounds in a victory this season.

Fr. Forward #22 Jabari Phillip led the way for the Colts scoring 29 points finishing just one point short of consecutive 30 point games. Jabari finished his great shooting performance shooting 11/15 from the field and went a perfect 7/7 from the free throw line. Jabari also added four rebounds and one assist to his great night.
So. Guard #1 Marquis Gill finished with the second most points on the team finishing with 20 points on 8-14 shooting from the field and 3/8 from behind the three point line. Gill had a fantastic game leading the Colts in both assists and rebounds finishing with seven recorded rebounds and eight assists, Gill also added two steals to his fantastic outing.
So Guard #3 Daniel Lans led the way defensively recording three steals. Lans finished with 16 points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals.
On Sunday Jan 12th the SUNY Orange Colts took on the #17 ranked team in the Nation the Thunderwolves of SUNY Niagara.
To begin the game there were six different lead changes for the first four minutes of the game before the Thunderwolves jumped out and scored seven unanswered points until So. Marquis Gill put an end to their scoring spree and sunk a layup before Coach Rickard called the games first timeout. For the majority of the first half SUNY Orange had to battle adversity and spark a comeback on the scoreboard after trailing by more than ten points. The Colts would go on to score 13 unanswered points to cut their deficit to just one point with the score of 37-36 forcing SUNY Niagara to call their first timeout of the game. The Colts would end up trailing by ten going into the second half with the score at 48-38. In the first half four of the five starters finished with five or more points and finished 88.9% from the free throw line after missing just one.
In the second half of the game the Colts were unable to retain their lead finding themselves trailing for 20 minutes of the game, the Colts came within five points on multiple occasions but could not get through the tough defense of the Thunderwolves to give them the lead. Despite the tough second half the Colts outscored the Thunderwolves in half number two 42-38 but unfortunately was not enough to surpass the hump, there were two Colts who finished the second half with more then ten points scored. Marquis Gill finished the half with 15 points scored and Kassius Paulin scored 11.

There were four Colt athletes who finished the game with 10 or more points.
So. Guard #1 Marquis Gill led the way for the Colts finishing with 23 points on 10/23 shooting from the field and went 3 for 10 from the three point line. Gill also added five rebounds and one assist to his night.
Fr. Forward #2 Kassius Paulin finished as the Colts second leading scorer finishing with 16 points scored on 6/11 shooting from the field and 2/5 from behind the thee point arc. Kassius also added two rebounds, led the Colts with three steals and was in a three way tie for block leader finishing with just one block.
Fr. Forward #22 Jabari Phillip finished with 14 points, tied with teammate Marco Evans as the rebound leader with six recorded rebounds and also recorded one steal.
The Colts will look to get back on their win streak as they travel to take on the Caiman of Hostos Community College on Tuesday Jan 14th for an 8:00 tipoff.
