
FSCJ Baseball Splits Series at South Georgia
Game 1:
The FSCJ Manta Rays claimed a 4-1 victory over South Georgia State College on Tuesday at South Georgia State College. Keyon Ashby started the scoring for the Manta Rays with a single in the top of the second inning. In the third inning, they added three more runs, extending their lead to 4-0. An error contributed to one run, and Evan Rodriguez hit a home run to left field, driving in two more.
Harper Osburn secured the win for the FSCJ Manta Rays with a strong pitching performance, giving up only three hits and no runs over four innings while striking out one and walking two. For South Georgia State College, Digiovanni took the mound, allowing seven hits and four runs (one earned) in two and two-thirds innings, with two strikeouts and no walks. Joshua Rouw earned the save for the Manta Rays, and Ejan Fusetti pitched an impressive shutout inning in relief, striking out two without allowing a hit or a walk.
Offensively, the FSCJ Manta Rays recorded 11 hits. Rodriguez, batting seventh, led the team with two RBIs and went 1-for-3. Ashby, Isaac Newman, Dominic Masto, and Billy Girgis each contributed two hits. Jack Newman excelled on the basepaths with two stolen bases, and the team totaled four stolen bases overall. Defensively, the Manta Rays played flawlessly, committing no errors, with Jack Newman handling five defensive chances.
For South Georgia State College, Whaley, Flading, Daignault, Chalk, and Encarnacion each managed one hit. Flading, who went 1-for-4, led the team with their lone RBI.
Game 2:
The FSCJ Manta Rays faced a tough loss against South Georgia State College, falling 3-1 on Tuesday. Despite both teams performing well on the mound, South Georgia State College proved slightly stronger offensively. Gavan Bradley started on the hill for the Manta Rays, pitching three innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit, while striking out one and walking two. On the other side, Degrande pitched six innings for South Georgia State College, giving up six hits and one unearned run, striking out six and walking one.
Offensively, the FSCJ Manta Rays out-hit their opponents 6-5 but couldn't capitalize. Deven Gonzalez led the team with two hits, while Isaac Newman contributed the team's sole RBI. The Manta Rays played solid defense, turning one double play in the game. South Georgia State College's Bryant delivered a key performance, doubling in the first inning to drive in two runs and going 2-for-3 overall.
The FSCJ Manta Rays will look to bounce back in their next game, scheduled at home on Friday against USC Sumter.
