Men's Basketball Falls to Chesapeake

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team dropped a Region 20 divisional game to visiting Chesapeake Saturday, falling to the Skipjacks, 80-66, in Jenkins Gym.

Devon Marshall paced the Riverhawks (2-7) with 16 points on 60% shooting from the floor, adding seven defensive rebounds and a team-high three steals. Ryan Stacy added 15 points and seven rebounds. Zef Fuanya scored 14 points with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Angelo Harris had 12 points with two boards, two assists, and a team-high three blocks.

Chesapeake used a 13-0 run spanning just over four minutes late in the first half to break open what had been a close game. Fuanya stopped the run with a three-pointer, one of two in the first half for the sophomore.

The Riverhawks got back within eight with just over a minute left in the opening half. A late three-pointer by Da'Mir Camper put the Skipjacks back head by double digits, but Fuanya hit his second three with 20 seconds left to send the teams to the locker room with Chesapeake leading, 40-30.

The Skipjacks used another 13-0 run midway through the second half to build up to its largest lead of 23 by the 12:15 mark. The Riverhawks responded with a 10-0 run in just over a two minute span to get within 12, 66-54, but could not get any closer.

AACC held Chesapeake to its lowest offensive output since December 11. The Skipjacks led in rebounding, 52-25, leading to 20 second-chance points. AACC generated 18 points off of the Skipjacks' 17 turnovers – well over their per game average of 13.6 coming into the game.

The Riverhawks continue their homestand Tuesday with a 3 p.m. game against Penn Highlands in Jenkins Gym.
