The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team fell in the second round of the double elimination NJCAA Championship Tournament to the 3-seeded Kirkwood Eagles. It was a tight game in the opening minutes, and the Blue Devils were able to build up a seven-point lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. The Eagles scorched the Blue Devils in bench points, 38 to 8. The second half did not go KCKCC's way as the Kirkwood height and athleticism became too much for Brandon Burgette and his players. With the 73-55 loss, the Blue Devils are facing elimination and will now prepare to take on conference rival, 11th-seeded Johnson County Community College, who is also in a must-win situation.
BJ Stewart led the game in points as he shot 8-13 from the floor, scoring 23 points while bringing down five rebounds and getting three steals. Stewart was the only Blue Devil to finish in double figures and he now has 47 points and 16 rebounds in the first two games of the 2025 NJCAA Championship Tournament. Pierce Ross had nine points, four rebounds, three steals and one of the four KCKCC assists. Camron Williford and Ta'Veaion Washington combined for 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The 14 seeded Blue Devils shot 20-59 from the field (33.9%), 5-25 from three-point range (20%) and 10-18 from the free-throw line (55.6%). The Eagles shot 24-52 from the field (46.2%), 8-20 from three-point range (40%) and 17-19 from the free-throw line (89.5%). The Eagles also outrebounded the Blue Devils 45 to 26.
