Pratt, Kan. - Beavers Win! The Men's Basketball program played in Great Bend against the reigning national champion, Barton Cougars, who are currently ranked 6th in the nation, and were able to leave the arena victorious. On December 7, 2024, the Beavers (6-5, 2-3) traveled to Great Bend, Ks to face the Cougars (8-3, 3-3). The Beavers handed the Cougars their third straight conference loss in a thriller.
The Beavers were propelled to victory by their perimeter play. All three starting backcourt players scored in the double digits. Hunter Vaughn (RsFr.) scored 17 points, Jarrett Dingle (So.) had 22 points, while shooting a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line, and Khasen Robinson (RsFr.) added an additional 21points on 7-12 shooting. Dingle was the initial catalyst for Pratt, starting the game hot. Robinson stepped into the spotlight as the defense's focus shifted to Dingle and Vaughn closed the game strong. The Beavers also received a big night from forward Joseph Opareke (So.) who had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The performance was further aided by the reemergence of Ajiet Akot (Fr.) who had been previously sidelined by an injury. Akot scored the game winning basket, and his return provided a major boost for the team.
The team, who has been plagued with injuries early in the season had only 9 players available for practice the Friday before the game. This led to head coach Kenny Eddy suiting up with his guys and participating. Coach Eddy could not say enough good things about his team and stated how proud he is of this group.
This week will bring two more tough games for the Beavers against Fort Hays Tech Northwest and Colby Community College. These games can be streamed at Live Broadcasts - Pratt CC and results of the games can be found on our social media profiles!
