Gutierrez drops 40 as Knights take down LaGuardia to open second half

New York, NY (January 12, 2025) – Freshman Rhaelyn Gutierrez (Methuen) recorded her second 40 point performance of the season on Saturday, including a game winning three-pointer, as the Northern Essex Community College women's basketball team opened up the second half of the season with a 76-73 win over LaGuardia Community College. The non-conference win improves the Knights record to 6-7 on the season.

Mirelys Morales (Dracut) tossed in 18 points of her own to give the Knights two scorers in double figures, while Rebecca Heathman (Billerica) added a team high 12 rebounds in the win.

Rosie Ferrera (Methuen) made her debut in a Knights uniform in the game and contributed six points and six rebounds.

The Knights scored 17 points in the game off 22 turnovers from the Red Hawks, while shooting 34.6% percent from the floor in the win.

NECC will return to region play on Thursday evening when they travel to the Reggie Lewis Center in the Boston to take on the Tigers of Roxbury Community College with tip-off set for 5:30pm.
